Integrating 21st-Century Skills in Online Sessions

Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) graduate student, Dipeshwor Shrestha, collaborated with the Karkhana Community of Teachers to run a session for engineering education in Nepal, conducted via Zoom, that over 70 teachers in Nepal attended. Their task was to create a mechanism to transport momos from a village to a cave separated by a 10-foot wide river. The teachers were separated into breakout rooms and discussed the ideas they brainstormed, some even restricting their inventory of items just to what was in their home, while others tested out their ideas using models and objects similar to what they would have used. When all of the teachers came back to the main session after their breakout rooms, they learned the importance of collaboration and integrating technology like Zoom and Miro into 21st-century education, as these platforms allowed them all to collaborate and reflect on the activity presented to them.
