Draw2Code: Low-Cost Tangible Programing for Young Children to Create Augmented Reality (AR) Animations

In April 2021, Hyejin Im, graduate student of Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO), successfully defended her master thesis, Draw2Code: Low-cost tangible programming for young children to create AR animations. Advised by Tufts faculty member Chris Rogers, Hyejin created Draw2Code, a paper-based computational kit for young children to learn about basic programming concepts by creating interactive AR animation.

Creating Opportunities for Teachers through Virtual Programming

Although Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) was still working remotely in spring 2021, we were still able to connect with teachers in several ways. We have had Coffee hours (an informal virtual gathering of teachers sharing ideas), contracted professional development, and have planned an exciting summer of opportunities for teachers.

CEEO Graduate Work on AI

In December 2020, Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) graduate student Ziyi Zhang and Sara Willner-Giwerc collaborated to run three one-hour robotics sessions with high school students in Malden remotely. The goal of these sessions was to introduce basic AI, especially reinforcement learning (RL) concepts to the students.

Teacher Engineering Education Program (TEEP) Fall 2021

The CEEO is excited to announce that the Teacher Engineering Education Program (TEEP) is now accepting applications for Fall 2021. TEEP is for any practicing elementary, middle school, or high school teacher who is seeking to change or expand their approach through the integration of engaging hands-on engineering principles in their coursework.

Simple Robotics (EN1) Final Projects

In the fall 2020 semester, Dr. Ethan Danahy, Research Associate Professor from Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO), taught a section of the introductory engineering course for Tufts first-year School of Engineering students called Simple Robotics.

Engineering Design Lab and Tufts CEEO

In summer 2020, Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) collaborated with Tufts University College to teach a virtual engineering workshop, Engineering Design Lab (EDL) which is a Pre-College program for High School students focused on exploring the fundamentals of robotics and computation. EDL was taught by Tufts CEEO Research Assistant Professor, Jennifer Cross.
