We Want to Make Free Toys!

image1Community-connected engineering workshop engages fourth-graders in designing for their own community

Being an engineer is a powerful concept – one that encourages us to embrace our ideas and bring them to life by finding creative and practical solutions to accomplish our goals. Engineers define goals and then they trust themselves to investigate, tinker, fail, and persist in finding ways to meet them. In a small slum community in Lahore, Pakistan, fourth-graders decided making free toys for themselves and their community was a goal they cared about. Many students from this class came from families that worked as rag-pickers (rag-pickers salvage reusable or recyclable materials thrown away by others to sell for income). The school in this community was run by a non-government organization that hoped to uplift the entire community through educating its children.

Design and Engineering Workshops (DEW) Registration Now Open for Summer 2019

Screen Shot 2019-02-11 at 1.23.05 PMThe Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) offers Design and Engineering Workshops (DEW) for students K-12. These workshops are single session after school and weekend workshops. We also offer week-long school break and summer workshops with a variety of different themes. Our workshop programs are designed to give students the opportunity to learn about the engineering design process through a series of fun, hands-on building activities. Each summer workshop theme engages students in creative problem solving, and client-centered design.

Summer 2018 Design and Engineering Workshops

1University Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) has an exciting list of research based Design and Engineering Workshops (DEW) for kids during the summer of 2018. We have a variety of different themed workshops for all different age ranges! Your child will be immersed into the world of engineering and walk away feeling empowered to be an engineer of the future. Our workshops have inspired many students to go into the engineering field. Maybe your child will become an engineer too! All workshops are held on the Tufts campus in Medford.

Billund Builds Nature 2018: Teacher and Administrator STEM Workshop

DSC_0138This past November/early December, Tufts CEEO hosted Billund Builds workshop, a week long study tour for 36 educators and administrators from Billund, Denmark in collaboration with the Capital of Children. The CEEO faced an exciting challenge of addressing the needs and challenges of not just educators but also those of administrators and principals from pre-school through middle school.
